The new chair of Holbeach Parish Council says his goal is to support the staff while claiming some councillors don’t respect them.
Coun Rick Stevens has taken on the mantle from Clive Turner after his resignation, one of several changes in the position in recent years.
Mr Stevens even resigned as vice chair to Mr Turner and from the council in September, but has since returned and been voted in as chair.
He also seconded a motion to hold a vote of no confidence in the previous incumbent.
“I left the council because I was worn out and told by a few members of the public that some of the councillors were telling the public that I was not doing a good job,” he said. “I believe that I should have taken a sabbatical for a chance to recharge rather than resign.
“The same councillors have been making claims the parish council was out of control and that the financial rules were not fit for purpose.
“Having been heavily involved in writing the policies and procedures with the returning finance officer, which have been reviewed by our auditor and no changes have taken place since the review.
“The only way to support these policies and procedures was to rejoin the council.
“I was asked by a few councillors if I would take up the chairmanship. After much thought and consideration, I agreed to take this position.
“My agenda is an easy one which is to support our staff and try to encourage more of the electorate to join.
“It is going to be hard supporting the staff when some councillors, have no respect for the staff and other councillors.
Despite recently losing councillors the majority are here for the public and to support other councillors.
“The council has just accepted a councillor request to rejoin.”
