The company set to build a solar farm on the edge of South Holland, which was granted on appeal, has now asked for it to be operational for another five years.
King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council had initially refused permission after South Holland District Council delegated the decision to it for the site just across the River Nene from Tydd.
But earlier this year central government planning officers upheld Enso Green Holdings Ltd’s appeal and allowed the solar farm provided it ceased operations after 35 years.
Now the company has applied to operate it for 40 years.
Documents submitted with the application state: “The extended 40-year operational life maximises the period within which the solar farm and battery storage facility can generate and store renewable electricity prior to removal and recycling, thereby avoiding premature decommissioning and providing a valuable contribution to the UK’s low carbon energy needs.”
