No need to be alone at Christmas

A Spalding woman is appealing to the community to provide gifts as part of the Christmas dinner she will cook for them.

As she did last year, Vanessa Browning is set to cook for single people who otherwise would be on their own on Christmas Day.
It proved a huge success with 25 people attending.
She would like to make it better this year by providing presents for those who attend.
“It’s about reaching out to these people and making sure they’re not alone on Christmas Day,” said Vanessa, who runs the Community Mind Matters initiative.
“Last year it was like a sanctuary for people. Those that were unable to attend or would rather stay at home we rang.
“This year we want to do it again and make it even more special by providing gifts too.”
Vanessa is involved in the Give a Gift Campaign that The Voice is a part of and aimed at children, but this is separate and she’s looking for gifts she can give to older people.
Hughes Electrical is a drop-off point for the initiative and you can drop gifts there for Vanessa to collect.
“If anyone knows of someone who is not going to see anybody else on Christmas Day, please let us know and we’ll either invite them along to the dinner or give them a call,” Vanessa said.
