LETTER: Parsons paid bill after being selected

Question: What do Nigel ‘I spend my taxpayer-funded MEP general allowance of £3,580 a month “as I see fit” without having to provide receipts’ Farage, Neil ‘brown-envelope bungs’ Hamilton, jailbird Lord Brocket, ladies’ man Roger Bird and our own ‘dodgy’ Dave Parsons have in common? Answer: UKIP!

According to the Hinckley Times (October 8, 2014), “Disgraced former Leicestershire County Council leader David Parsons [was] being taken to court after he failed to repay £1,500 he still owes the authority from a £2,387 expenses debt. Officials say the former Tory has stopped making instalments to clear the cost of using the council’s chauffeur-driven car on non-civic excursions.”

It is of great concern that court proceedings, at council tax payers expense, were required in order for the debt to be repaid, “Last week County Hall said he still owed £660-£500 original debt, plus £160 court costs. Today it confirmed he had paid off the outstanding sum.” (Leicester Mercury, December 10, 2014).

Even more outrageous is that this was only AFTER he’d been selected to stand for Parliament in our area!
