A Holbeach businessman’s dream to provide a community football facility is quickly becoming a reality.

Construction work at Kings Academy is almost complete and the first Holbeach United Youth matches could be played there before the end of the season.

Holbeach United Community Sports Academy – as it is formally known – is a project with the support of the Football Foundation and a £340,000 Sport England grant. It is being built by

Langwith Construction on land in Pennyhill donated to the community by late town businessman John King.

Sadly John died in 2010 but his son Ashley has continued the family’s support of the project.

There will be six pitches, four changing rooms, an officials’ room, and community clubhouse with kitchen and a community hall.

Academy vice chairman Stuart Clark said: “We had a four-week delay due to services but the academy should be ready for use the last week of March or first week of April.

“The pitches are all ready so we might even get some matches in before the end of the season but we not going to rush it. We want everything to be perfect.

“All the trustees and the committee are delighted to see the project reach its completion and give Holbeach United youth teams their own home.

“We really want this to be a community facility and will be encouraging people to hire the hall for parties or weekly events like dance classes.”
