Former leader up for award

The former leader of South Holland District Council has been shortlisted for a national award.

Lord Gary Porter is up for the Lifetime Legend title at the Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) and County Councils and Local Authorities (CCLA) Awards.
A spokesman for the awards said: “Lord Porter served as leader of South Holland District Council for two decades.
“He is shortlisted for Lifetime Legend for his determination to bring economic growth and opportunity to his community and every resident in it.
“His work has delivered real impact and his commitment and contribution to championing the local government sector really stood out in his nominations.”
The award ceremony takes place at London’s Guildhall on November 16.
Jonathan Carr-West, chief executive, LGIU said: “In the face of unprecedented domestic and global challenges over the last year, councillors nationwide have once again exhibited unwavering dedication to serving their constituents.
