SNOOKER: Services B ease relegation fears

Tim Nash and Ted Howling won games on the black ball as Services B boosted their hopes of avoiding the Division Two trapdoor in Spalding and District Snooker League.

The side remain bottom but the 5-1 win over the club C team makes the table better reading.
Jeff Collins and Alan Hansard were the B team’s other winners, with Mark Spiller getting C’s consolation.

Leaders Bourne Snooker Club A slipped to a 5-1 defeat at Boundary A.
The home side’s scratch player Pete King had the unenviable task of taking on in-form Mark Gray (O98), but took his opportunties and potted enough to secure a 129-77 win. Gray built a superb 61 break.

Lowly Crowland A dropped just one game in the home match against Pyramid D, Crowland’s Simon Parker beat James Sharpe (28 break) on the black ball and there were further wins for Gez McCormick (26 break), Richard Walker and Neil Burton. Peter Grose ensured the Bourne side didn’t go home empty-handed.

In Division One, a tight match at Services E saw three games decided on the black. Donington A’s Nigel Brasier edged home by two points against Martin Spencer and Darren Templeman grabbed another final-ball win for the visitors, who left with a 4-2 success.

Vince Fitter’s 22 clearance secured one of the points for Services E, who are not yet in mid-table safety.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Merrison had breaks of 24 and 22 as Holbeach A saw off Whittlesey A 5-1. Skipper Mick Ayres started the night well for Holbeach by sinking the black to come from behind to beat Laurie Smith.

Holbeach D kept on course for a high finish by grabbing four points at Crowland C. Chris Chamberlain, Dennis Hix and Ian Woodberry got the wins for the visitors.

In Division Three, a re-spotted black was needed in the match between Gosberton’s D and C teams.
The C team’s Andy Shephard potted it to end Jack Craft’s hopes.

Consti J made it 11 match points out of a possible 12 with a 5-1 win over the club C team.
Les Andrew took advantage of a re-spotted black to beat Pat Bowman. John Walker was the C team’s sole winner.

Consti A climbed off the foot of the table thanks to picking up six points over two away matches last week.

Paul Kent and Rob Savic (on the black) won in a 4-2 defeat at Whittlesey B. Two nights later they sent Donington D to the bottom, as Kent, Peter Law and Graham Ridley scored important wins.
