Holbeach stay in promotion hunt

Holbeach United remain in a play-off place in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League table, despite falling to a 1-0 defeat at Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers on Saturday.

Missed chances cost them dearly, although they were handicapped by the absence of 21-goal strike force Connor Pilbeam and George Frost, who were sidelined by a minor operation and illness respectively.
The visitors created an abundance of first-half chances but failed to test the home goalkeeper and conceded what proved to be the only goal of the game to Charlie Marshall.
The defeat drops the Tigers to fourth place in the table and they now face two weeks without a game. They are next due to be in action on October 21, when they welcome Wivenhoe to Carter’s Park.
A club spokesman said: “It was a disappointing loss. We were by far the stronger team and rued a number of missed chances that ultimately cost us. On a positive note, results went our way and we remain in a healthy position.
“There’s a small break now from what’s been a hectic schedule. We’re very proud of the work these lads have already put in and the performances they are producing.
“There’s a long way to go and we shall all continue working hard and see where it gets us.”
Tigers: Rigby, Greenacre, Johnson, Oldham, Ling, Carter, Thorne, Barnes, Prentice, Harris, Cook. Subs: Compton, Robertson, Pike.
Attendance: 42.
