Resignation leads to a by-election

There’s set to be a by-election in Spalding after one of the councillors elected last May resigned from South Holland District Council.

Bailey Boulding has resigned from one of the two seats in the St Paul’s ward.
He gained the seat standing as an independent from the Conservative’s Glynis Scalese, along Coun Rob Gibson.
Coun Gibson, said Mr Boulding had decided to step down due to ‘family complications’ that had arisen since May’s vote.
According to the council’s record of attendance Mr Boulding had only attended one of the five council meetings he’d been requested to since then.
“Unfortunately Bailey has had some family complications that have happened since May and he hasn’t been able to attend as many meetings as he would like.
“Attending in the future is likely to be difficult so he’s decided to resign so someone who can attend the meetings as we’re supposed to do on behalf of our constituents can do.
“We’re still waiting to hear from the council’s domestic services about when an election might be and will deciding on an independent candidate when we do.”
In May’s election, Mr Boulding picked up 385 votes to take the seat ahead of the Conservative candidates Mrs Scalese (who picked up 269 votes) and Christopher Sutton (197).
Ms Scalese said she would be looking to stand again for the Conservatives.
“I did so much hard work there and there’s so much I’d still like to do, ” she said.
A spokesman for South Holland District Council said: “A Notice of Casual Vacancy will be published shortly and if an election is called for, a date will be announced in due course.”
