The Spalding and District Table Tennis League (sponsored by Vital Recruitment) began the second half of the season with the final match in the first round of fixtures.
However, there were only small changes to the league positions, though they could be significant by the end of the return matches.
In Division One, Bladerunners lead at the top was cut back slightly.
Blades faced JDM and came away with a 4-1 win, Tomascz Dobrzyn claiming his usual double in a match where all games finished in three ends. Phil Chandler took the loser’s point.
South Holland’s match with Haz Beans was also over in 12 ends, all of them to Holland in a 5-0 win – only their second of the season.
Third placed One from the Past also recorded a 4-1 win over Defenders, with Sasha Martin taking a double.
He didn’t have things all his own way, though, as Jean White pushed him to the fifth end as well as earning her team’s point in her other game.
That result moves them ahead of JAG, who managed a 3-2 win over Outsiders, which was their first victory in the league this season.
The singles were shared, with James Gibson being undefeated for JAG, along with the doubles where he paired up with Reece Kerry. Joe Beadle and Keith Davey recorded first wins for their points.
In a top-of-the-table battle in Division Two, Hope for the Best took the doubles to win against Castle Sports and move ahead in the table.
Richard Matthews and Stuart Duffill added a singles each to complete the scoring, while Guntars Briedes took another double for Castle.
Third-placed Practice Makes Perfect had their match postponed because an eye condition ruled league chairman Clive Shardlow out of action for Insidious.
Elsewhere, A Win for a Curry recorded their second win this campaign with a resounding 5-0 win over Saunter Together. Phil Knowles and his grandson, Dylan Taylor were both undefeated in that one.
Casey’s and Mine’s a Pint were only able to play one set of singles in their match, which saw Pint’s Jeremy Hitcham win both games.
