No Derby delight for struggling Spalding RFC in 2015 opener

There was no change of fortune for Spalding RFC in their first game of 2015 as they were soundly beaten 78-14 at Derby in Midlands One East on Saturday.

Bottom-of-the-table Town kicked off the New Year as the old one ended, as they made it 15 defeats from as many games in the league so far this season.

There was at least some positive news for the club, with former skipper Harry Sharman returning to the field after a four-month absence. He enjoyed a run-out for the Spalding’s second side against Ampthill as he bids to regain fitness.

Spalding’s search for an elusive first win of the season continues at Huntingdon and District next Saturday (2.15pm).
