Crowland Town collected a much-needed three points on the final Saturday before Christmas as they edged a five-goal ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division clash with Peterborough Sports Reserves 3-2.
James Ellwood struck twice for hosts Crowland in the Snowden Field thriller, with Virginijus Simkus their other scorer.
The win hauls Crowland off the bottom in what was their final game of 2014.
They are now just one point behind Holbeach United Reserves, who lost 2-1 at home to leaders Coates Athletic at Carter’s Park thanks to goals from Matt Heron and Luke Hipwell.
Elsewhere in the top flight, Moulton Harrox picked up a fine 4-2 win over Uppingham Town at Broad Lane.
Joe Townsend netted a double for Paul Kent’s charges, with Ian Bradbury and Macauley Grimwood the other scorers.
In Division One, Sutton Bridge United came unstuck 5-3 at home to Baston in a real cracker.
Sam Lilley, Kurt Scott and Matt Eaton notched in vain for hosts Bridge.
There were also goals galore at London Road as Long Sutton Athletic went down 4-3 at home to AFC Stanground.
Moulton Harrox Reserves were tonked 6-1 at Netherton Reserves and spend Christmas in the bottom two.
Down in Division Two, leaders Spalding United Reserves won 6-2 at Coates A , while a Mark Lovelace doubled earned Pinchbeck United Reserves a 2-2 home draw with Sawtry Reserves.
There was a derby in Division Three – and the honours were even as Tydd St Mary drew 1-1 at home against ten-man Spalding Town. Tom Elderkin put Town ahead in the first half, but Michael Ocock’s 75th-minute leveller earned the Saints a point. Danny Kingman was sent off for the visitors.
It was a bad day for South Holland sides in Division Four as Long Sutton Reserves lost 10-0 at Thorpe Wood and Holbeach Bank were crushed 8-1 at home to Bretton North End.
In Division Five, Lee Jackson hit four as leaders Whaplode Drove cruised to a 7-0 success at Coates C. Sam Harris, Ayden Sallis and Joe Strickland got the other goals.
Holbeach A went down 5-0 at Stanground Reserves, while Dale Parnell’s double earned Tydd St Mary Reserves a 2-2 draw at FC Peterborough.
