A team from Spalding Ramblers was successful in defeating nine other Lincolnshire Ramblers teams on Sunday, June 11 at Westwoodside in the north of the county when they took part in the annual Ramblers Goodban Trophy Competition.
The Goodban Competition is a treasure hunting competition open to all of the 11 Lincolnshire ramblers’ groups and consists of finding clues via map readings and general observations whilst walking a seven-mile route.
The competition, which took about five hours to complete, was undertaken in very hot conditions around the villages of Westwoodside and Haxey between Gainsborough and Doncaster.
The Spalding team, made up of Ray Scott, Wendy Hicks and Mike and Judy Chapman, scored an impressive 47 points out of a possible 58. The next team scoring 40.
Spalding Ramblers have entered teams over the years, but this is the first successful win for a while.
The group will be keeping the very impressive Goodban Shield until the next competition in June 2024 when it will be hosted by the Lincoln group.
Spalding Ramblers is open to all those who enjoy walking around our area and generally enjoy the countryside.
