Derby delight for Harrox as Tulips and Tigers hit by the freeze

Both Spalding United and Holbeach United were left kicking their heels on Saturday as frozen pitches forced their respective matches to be postponed.

The Tulips’ trip to Market Drayton Town in Evo-Stik League First Division South was called off early on Saturday morning, while Carter’s Park failed an 11am pitch inspection ahead of the Tigers’ proposed UCL Premier Division game against Oadby Town.

There was some good news for Holbeach, though, as UCL Premier Division title rivals Yaxley and Huntingdon Town both dropped points. Yaxley went down 2-0 at Kempston Rovers, while Huntingdon were held 3-3 at Thurnby Nirvana.

The biggest game of the day to actually go ahead in South Holland was the Lincs FA Junior Cup clash between Moulton Harrox and Pinchbeck United at Broad Lane.

It was hosts Harrox who took the spoils 2-0 as they booked their place in the quarter finals – but they were given a helping hand by former striker Tom Gosling, who was sent off inside 30 minutes for Ian Dunn’s side.

They will be South Holland sole representatives in the last eight after Spalding Town lost 2-1 at home to Horncastle Town in a game that went to extra time.
