High-flying Spalding Poachers march past Saints

Spalding Poachers 1st remain in the East League Division 2NW title picture after thrashing St Neots ladies’ 1st 4-0 on Saturday.

On a wet day at fortress Glen Park, Kelly Slater opened the scoring with a well-worked penalty corner routine.

Katie Gray then lashed number two into the roof of the net after using her blistering pace.

It was 3-0 after the break when a fine solo run and shot by Roz Dennis was deflected in from close range by the league’s top scorer Kelly Tuplin.

Not content with that, she added a second goal with a well-struck shot into the corner of the goal to round off the win.

A seventh win of the season keeps the Poachers one point behind leaders City of Peterborough.

In the same division, Long Sutton ladies’ 1st remain three points behind Spalding in third after brushing Cambs Nomads ladies’ 1st aside 4-2.

Leanne Woodhead’s strike ensured that Sutton went level at 1-1 at half time, before Louise Southgate grabbed the second to make it 2-1 just after the break.

Woodhead then scored her second thanks to an assist from Lisa Baker, with Emma Howell slotting home their fourth.

Down in Division 3NW, Spalding Poachers 2nd earned an impressive 4-2 victory at Horncastle.

Having fallen behind early on, Lauren Harvey’s strike made it 1-1 at half time. Lauren Pitts, Charlotte Morris and Akayla Newton then notched in the second period to seal the success.

However, Spalding Poachers 3rd were seen off 3-1 by Alford ladies’ 2nd. Alex Petty grabbed Poachers’ sole strike.

Long Sutton ladies’ 2nd, meanwhile, romped to a 4-2 victory over Lincoln ladies’ 3rd. Rebecca Kierman (2), Amber Wild and Jeorgia Carr notched.
