Spalding resident Christine Meggitt’s proposal to transform Winsover Road signal box into a dolls’ house workshop and showroom has MP support.
However, box owner Network Rail has still not responded to her offer last month to buy the building, which was decommissioned as part of the recent upgrade of the level crossing. It has been earmarked for demolition.
Mrs Meggitt said on Friday: “I’ve still not heard back from them.”
The plan has the support of South Holland and The Deepings MP John Hayes, who is keen to see the life of the signal box extended.
He said: “I’m aware of Christine Meggitt’s suggestion and offer to buy the signal box.
“I would be completely up for that because I think it would be a fantastic way of preserving its future.”
Network Rail said last Friday: “The latest position is that we are still planning to remove the signal box.”
Mr Hayes has made progress on securing the future of Littleworth signal box at Deeping St Nicholas, also up for demolition.
Following a meeting with Network Rail last week, Mr Hayes was due to contact Deeping St Nicholas Parish Council to talk about possible use and upkeep of the building.
He said: “I want to see it saved as an architectural feature or better still that it be made safe and secure and used as a heritage museum.
“Obviously we would have to talk through security as it’s right by the railway line.”
Network Rail said: “We are still looking into possible options, and will be in touch with the parish council again shortly.”
