Long Sutton Sunday (229-8) beat Uffington (177-5) by 52 runs
An excellent batting display from Long Sutton’s Sunday side saw them start their Rutland League campaign with a victory at Paradise Field on Sunday.
Winning the toss and batting first is a rarity for any Sutton side – but it looked as though they might regret it when Steve Skoulding (13), Phil Coote (3), Tim Norris (1) and Alex Canham (3) went to leave them reeling at 35-4.
That brought Paul Edgeller and the dangerous Barry Stanway to the crease – and the pair amassed 131 for the sixth wicket. Stanway eventually fell for 52, with Edgeller (114) reaching his second career century from 98 balls. Young gun Jack then Keeble added 28 as the home side finished on 229-8.
In reply, Edgeller (2-7) continued his tormenting of Uffington as he picked up early wickets.
The away side batted negatively with no real intention of chasing the total, which frustrated the home side.
Skipper Matt Bull finally broke the partnership, aided by an excellent catch from Jake Burton in the deep.
The returning Jack Keeble then bowled a superb spell to pick up two further wickets, but the away side closed their innings on 177-5.
