Car breakers on old pub site?

Plans for a car dismantling business on land at the yard of a former pub have been submitted.

The application would see the business operate from land at the Old Ship Inn at Gosberton Clough.

Information accompanying the application to South Holland District Council says the site had previously been used as a site for a transport company.

The site is part of a larger plot which was previously part of the Old Ship Inn which is now a residential dwelling.

A garage building to the north of the site was previously used by an engineering company.

“The character of the immediate local area is predominantly agricultural and residential with a collection of commercial businesses in the village. Rural in nature, the wider surrounding area is mainly agricultural,” the report says.

Currently the site is brownfield and was previously home to a courier business.

If approved, plans will see vehicles initially parked on hardstanding on part of the site for a short period of time until they’ve been de-polluted.

“As the previous businesses, which were similar in nature but with much higher vehicle movements, have existed on this site for many years without having any significant adverse environmental or amenity impacts,” says the report.
