Plans to construct a development of glass houses in Low Fulney could be set to get the go-ahead.
The development is in phases and the first will include glasshouses of up to 6.2m high.
Clear plastics and glass with a high insulation value will be used alongside screens to improve insulation and control sunshine.
The total floorspace of the glasshouses will be 33,770 square metres, or more than eight acres.
According to a report due to go before members of South Holland District Council’s planning committee next week, the site is on the eastern side of Mallard Road. A new structure will be attached to the existing glasshouses.
South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes has written and shares concerns over surface water flooding.
“The constituent is concerned over the construction of a glasshouse over a riparian drain,” he says.
There were also nine letters of objection, with flooding a concern alongside extra vehicle movements on a narrow, privately-owned road.
One resident said their home flooded in 2016 due to run-off from the existing glasshouse.
“Significant flooding in Mallard Road is becoming more significant with more glasshouses,” says the report.
It also adds that the internal drainage board has had ‘detailed discussions’ with the applicant to ensure increasing the surface area of glass does not lead to extra flooding.
The plan, by Opperman Plants, is recommended for approval.
A 13m heat storage tank is also included in the application.
