The RSPCA is appealing for information regarding an abandoned pony.
The blue and white Fallabella Shetland Stallion, named Bert, was abandoned in Lutton Marsh in a terrible state. He was very thin and had a wound with maggots inside it.
The pony was kept safe by a kind hearted horse owner – before being transferred into the care of Bransby Horses where he is now doing well.
Bert, who is aged between six and nine, was microchipped and inspector Kate Burris has been following up a number of leads but she is now appealing to anyone who may recognise Bert and know who his previous owner was.
Kate said: “When Bert was abandoned he was in an appalling state. He had a wound on his wither and the skin was rotting and riddled with maggots.
“I have been following up a number of leads which I had as a result of the information from his microchip, however I have been informed that Bert had most recently been sold to someone living in the Spalding area and I am keen to find this person as they may have important information which can help with my investigation.
“Bert was abandoned on July 10 in Marsh Lane, Lutton Marsh, so anyone who also remembers seeing anyone acting suspiciously in the area, I would ask them to contact the RSPCA appeals line, in confidence, on 0300 123 8018 – quoting incident 00910399.
“Fortunately Bert has now recovered well from his injuries and we are grateful to the team at Bransby Horses who have done an incredible job nursing him back to health.”
