A secondary school’s fourth annual careers fair was greeted with enthusiasm by exhibitors and students.
The fair at Donington’s Thomas Cowley High School enabled year nine, ten and 11 students to speak to different education and work-based providers to ask questions about future educational plans and jobs.
George Gray, Thomas Cowley’s careers co-ordinator, was responsible for organising the careers fair, the aims of which were to raise awareness of the jobs and career options available to students. It also encouraged students to start thinking about post-school choices, to ensure they can achieve the grades they need at school and have something to work for.
With many different providers attending including Boston High School, Boston College, Boston Work-based Learning, Stamford College, Spalding Grammar School, South Holland Post 16 Centre, CITB, First4Skills (apprenticeships), Lincolnshire Co-op, NHS and many others, there really was something for everyone.
Returning former student Luke Cowdell came to tell current students what life was like at Spalding Grammar where he is now studying for his A-levels.
He offered the following piece of advice for current students: “Make sure that you have a back-up plan for your choice of career. That way if things don’t go as you had hoped then you’ve still got options open to you.”
