Car passenger cut free and flown to hospital after crash on A16 at Cowbit

A passenger in a car involved in a collision on the A16 bypass near Cowbit on Thursday morning has been flown to hospital.

He suffered chest and pelvis injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The incident, also involving a lorry, happened at about 8.30am. The driver of the car was also injured.

Fire and rescue crews from Spalding, Holbeach and Dogsthorpe attended and released the two casualties in the car using hydraulic cutting equipment. Oil spills from both vehicles were also dealt with.

The road was closed in both directions. Witnesses to the collision are asked to call 101.

Meanwhile, just 45 minutes later, Spalding retained fire crew and Holbeach and Boston crews dealt with a two-car collision on the A16 at Spalding, by the Pecks Drove East junction.

Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to release two casualties; one from each car.
