Heartbreak at W Series finish

Top driver Abbi Pulling is ‘heartbroken’ that the W Series has been forced to finish early due to financial issues.

The Gosberton racer was awarded fourth place in the women-only championship which pulled the plug earlier this week.
The final three races in a fixture list of ten will no longer go ahead and Abbi’s race in Singapore last weekend has unexpectedly wrapped up her season for the series.
“Heartbroken that this season of racing in W Series has come to an end. As a driver you always want to fight till the very last moment, but not attending the Austin and Mexico GP means the fight for P2 is over,” she said in a social media post on Monday.
“Full focus now on planning for 2023 and being my best self moving forward,” she added.
Funding from an investor fell through and the W Series cancelled the final races, including a double header in Mexico City.
“The decision has been made to focus on the longer term fundraising process,” said a statement.
The races from W Series drivers feature as part of the support package at select Formula 1 Grand Prix throughout the year.
Championship leader Jamie Chadwick retains her title as more than the minimum required six races had been competed.
The Singapore race under lights saw Abbi take sixth place, a position she said had not shown her team’s ‘true pace.’
Catherine Bond Muir, chief executive of the W Series, said she was highly optimistic for next year’s season.
She said the intention was to continue covering the costs for competitors next year and beyond.
