A new dance studio in Low Fulney is a step closer to receiving planning permission.
Spalding School of Dance currently rents a base in Horseshoe Road, and wants to relocate to purpose-built premises in Rangell Gate, next to the home of school principal Claire Patman.
The Environment Agency had objected to the original application due to a perceived flood risk of a proposed residential flat. The floor level of the flat has now been raised to 500mm above the ground, prompting the authority to withdraw its objection.
The original plan for four dance studios was put in to South Holland District Council in May.
The previous owners of the site successfully applied for planning permission for a mushroom farm.
Mr and Mrs Holderness, of Helmsley Way, Spalding, said: “The original plans for the mushroom farm were not too much different in size to this dance studio proposal.
“Certainly, if it had been built, there would have been quite a visual impact!
“Although the original mushroom business never materialised, I see no reason why this dance studio cannot replace it. Indeed it should.”
Spalding and District Civic Society believes the plans are unimaginative.
Planning officer John Charlesworth said: “We appreciate that the proposed studio building will fit in with the buildings nearby but, given their nature, can’t help being disappointed that the application has not raised its sights a little higher.”
