Young dad killed as car hits stables in West Pinchbeck

A young dad was killed when the car he was driving left the road and hit stables in West Pinchbeck.

Steven Gibling was alone when the accident happened in Starlode Drove on Sunday night.
Police are trying to piece together what led to the car crashing on the straight rural road. The scene is in a 40mph speed limit not far from a crossroads in the centre of the village.

Farmer Philip Posey owns the brick-built stables which the car hit.
He said: “I heard a loud bang at about 9.30 to 10 o’ clock on Sunday night.
“I thought it was a firework and I came outside to just check on the pony.”

From Mr Posey’s position in his back garden he could not see the accident and went back inside unaware anything had happened.
He said: “The next thing I knew there were blue lights shining in my bedroom window and a police officer told me there’d been an accident. It was a shock.”

The no through road was closed until 4am on Monday while accident investigations were carried out.
Police said emergency services were called at 11.15pm and Mr Gibling was pronounced dead at the scene.

Any witnesses who have not already spoken to police are asked to contact the Collision Witness Hotline on 01522 558855.
Mr Gibling is believed to have been in his early 30s and from the Pinchbeck area.
He married his wife Kara in August last year.
