Louisa’s sharing passion for dance with children

Opportunity knocks for youngsters wanting to learn some moves with the opening of a new dance school.

Dance Vibe Academy is the culmination of 16 years of practice and passion for 21-year-old Louisa Harrison, who now wants to share her expertise and love of dancing with a new generation.

Louisa, of Weston, started dancing when she was just five and after earning a place as a finalist in the national ballroom championship in Blackpool, she moved on to jazz.

She studied for a year at the Paul McCartney Institute of Performing Arts in Liverpool, where she achieved a Foundation Certificate in Dance, before earning a scholarship for another year of study at Rare Studios, also in Liverpool.

In that time she has held a number of dancing jobs, including with the BBC, and is now turning her drive and enthusiasm to setting up her own dance business.

Dance Vibe Academy will cater for children and young people, aged from seven to 25.

Classes will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday at West Pinchbeck Village Hall, which Louisa hopes will enable those who find it difficult to travel to Spalding to get involved.

On Tuesdays, Louisa will concentrate on jazz and jazz technique, while Wednesday classes will focus on commercial and hip hop.

Sessions run from 5pm to 6pm for seven to ten-year-olds, 6.15pm to 7.15pm for 11 to 14-year-olds and 7.30pm to 8.30pm for those 15 years and over.

Sessions cost just £4 and there is no commitment to attend a set number of sessions – just pay as you go.

Young dancers do not require any specialist equipment either, making Louisa’s classes a way of discovering if you want to take dance up as a hobby long-term without a large initial outlay.

Louisa, who has a BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre), said: “You just need to wear something comfortable and shoes you can dance in.

“The classes will be very friendly and relaxed and suitable for people of all abilities.”

Louisa is CRB checked, fully insured and has first aid training.
