SLBL cricket round-up: Moulton collapse to defeat at Grantham, Sutton 2nd seal success

A batting collapse cost Moulton Harrox dear as they were defeated by 114 runs at Grantham 2nd in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division on Saturday.

The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first at Harlaxton, but were bowled out for 181 in 39 overs as Lee Eyett (3-28) and Alin Carter (3-39) took three wickets each.

Harrox, however, were all out for 67 in reply with only two players making double figures.

Opener Martin Parmley was Grantham’s chief run scorer as he cracked 70, while Stewart Mudie (18) and Matt Barry (19) were the only others to make double figures.

Moulton’s reply was decimated by Glenton Williams (6-11) and Rahul Kumar (4-27), with only Chris Beale (21) and Eyett (14) managing scores above ten.

In Division One, Moulton Harrox’s title-chasing 2nd side eased to a five-wicket success over Grantham 3rd.

Harrox put their opponents into bat after winning the toss and, despite openers Ben Kennedy Short (57) and Graeme Davidge (40) scoring well, they were bowled out for 118 in 43.1 overs.

Harry Lovell (5-17) and Danny Jackson (3-33) shone for Moulton in the bowling department, while Stephen Coles (1-33) and Jamie Juckes (1-30) also chipped in.

Coles (44 not out) then starred as Moulton made 199-3 in reply, with Mark Ramsden (23) and Jake Morton (20) also scoring nicely.

In Division Two, Long Sutton 2nd enjoyed a 62-run victory over Boston 3rd at the Mayflower.

Sutton batted first and lost openers Chris Booth (1) and Jack Smith (0) early on, but a fine innings from Tom Leader (77) ensured that they made 202 in 33 overs before being bowled out.

Joe Whitaker (34) also scored nicely for Sutton, with Andy Shaw (3-50) the pick of the Boston bowlers.

Skipper Ian Morris (66) starred in Boston’s reply, but C John’s 3-45 helped bowl them out for 140 in 34.1 overs.

In the same division, Spalding Town 3rd suffered a four-wicket defeat at Belton Park.

After losing the toss Town were bowled out for 126, with Yuvraj Ranaut top scoring on 21.

Neo Timothy (2-12) and Ranaut (2-2) both took two wickets in the reply, but Belton Park cruised to 128-6.
