Croker and Bringeman enjoy four wins apiece for South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club at Leeds

A team of 23 South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club members won an impressive 36 medals over three days at the City of Leeds National Qualifier event.

The Spalding-based team acquitted themselves admirably as they achieved new personal best (PB) times and broke both club and county records too.

Head coach Keith Haynes said: “The swimmers have had a great learning experience here.

“They have had to manage themselves through both heats and finals and have been working on improving their time standards from those morning swims into their evening swims, this is a hugely important skill to develop.

“We’ve had some real breakthrough swims with big improvements.”

Events got underway with the 1500m freestyle, as six of the team took to the pool – with fine results.

Lillie Hamilton swam to a new PB time, while Mollie Briggs secured a season’s best time.

Matteo Monaco (13 years group) got things off to a flying start in the boys’ event as he sped to a 26-second PB to claim the silver medal.

Oscar Goldsmith (14 years) got a bronze medal with a PB time, while Oliver Sorrell and Alfie Bisby also set new standards.

Meanwhile, Emma Croker (15 years and over) had a successful weekend as she swept to the top of the podium on four occasions.

She struck gold in the 50m, 100m (PB) and 200m freestyle with convincing wins. Her PB in the 100m freestyle was also a club and county record

For good measure, Croker added another PB in the 50m butterfly en-route to another gold medal.

Team-mate Rico Bringeman also won four gold medals over the course of the weekend.

He bagged 200m butterfly gold by a sizeable distance, then followed that up with new PB 200m IM time that was good enough for gold, a club best and a county record.

There was further success and another PB for Bringeman in the 400m IM, before he set yet another county record in the 100m butterfly for his fourth win.

Monaco was then back in the pool to strike gold in both the 800m freestyle and the 200m backstroke.

He also picked up a further four silver medals in the 50m and 100m backstroke, the 200m breaststroke and the 400m freestyle.

Further medals followed as Goldsmith picked up five more. He struck gold in the 400m IM (PB), before a hat-trick of silver medals in the 400m freestyle, the 200m (PB) butterfly and the 800m (PB) freestyle.

Frank Lamb won no fewer than nine medals across a range of strokes and distances.

He got gold in the 50m breaststroke, then claimed a brace of silver medals in the 100m butterfly and the 100m breaststroke and six bronze medals.

There were also PB times for him in the 100m and 200m freestyle events.

Younger sister Kitty Lamb (12 years and under) collected a brilliant silver in the 50m backstroke, before adding four bronze medals – including PBs in the 100m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 200m backstroke.

Lucy Wilson also claimed a medal in the same group as she took silver in the 100m breaststroke.

Wilson also smashed her PB times in both the 50m and 200m freestyle events.

Aidan Evans (13 years group) had to wait until the final event of the weekend to take bronze in the 200m backstroke in a PB time.

Mollie Briggs also added a bronze to the club total in the 400m freestyle, while also setting a new PB in the 200m butterfly.

Beatrice Finch produced one of the most exceptional swims of the meet from the South Lincs swimmers.

In the 400m IM Finch put together an outstanding swim as she lowered her PB time by an astonishing 14 seconds to set a new standard.

She was on-form over the weekend as she also set new PB times in the 100m and 200m backstroke events.

Thomas Bruce was also in fine form as he powered his way to new PB times across a range of sprint events.

In the 100m freestyle he broke the 57-second barrier for the first time, while In the 50m butterfly there was another PB.

There was a three and a half second improvement for Bruce in the 200m freestyle as he lowered his PB again, before rounding out the weekend a further PB in the 100m butterfly.
