Golf round-up: Sutton Bridge teams on winning form, Roz and Joy win Fleur De Lyse title

Sutton Bridge Golf Club were on winning form in two home matches across two different sections last week.

In the men’s section, the Bridge team enjoyed a 4-2 win over their counterparts from March.

Wins came from the combinations of Paul Penney and George Baines (2&1), Craig Pack and Sid Warner (2&1), Sam and Jonathon Shippey (4&3) and Terry Young and Scott May (2&1).

The losing pairs were Pack and Warner (2&1) and Adrian Johnson and Harry Oakes (6&4).
Also victorious were the seniors’ team, who saw off Ramsey 5.5-0.5 on home soil.

Victories came from Barry Irwin and Mike Bell (1up), Gus Gregory and Roy Fox (8&6), Mark Charnley and Colin Fawcett (7&5), Ray Jackson and Richard Upton (5&4) and Andy Parks and Rick Morley (7&5), while Alan Potter and Richard Titchener halved.

There was a defeat for Sutton Bridge’s mixed team, though, as they lost 4-2 against Spalding.

On winning form were Robert and Claire Smith and Scott May and Nicky Elphick.

But the duos of Baines and Paula Brown, Tony Fox and Roz Fridholm, Alan and Joy Potter and Mike and Brenda Bell were all defeated.

  • In the ladies’ section, Fridholm and Potter are celebrating after winning the Fleur De Lyse competition.

The defeated nearest challengers Brown and Elphick on countback.

Bell and Smith were third – and were aided by an amazing hole-in-one by Bell on the second hole.
