Rotary helps local organisations

South Holland Rotary has given out thousands of pounds to local good causes thanks to donations collected while moving Santa around the town in the run up to Christmas.
The Woodlands Hotel was the venue where last week club president George Clement spoke to each group about how they would spend the money.
Those receiving grants were Peter and Cath Kite, of Spalding PHAB, Amanda Baggott and Diane Ridgley, of 1st Cowbit Brownies, John Constable and Peter Jullien, of Spalding Rugby Football Club, Beth McKay and Amy Tawn, of Spalding and District Young Farmers’ Club, Geoff and Teresa Chappell, of Spalding and District Gym Club, John Ralph and Howard Gelley, of Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland, Wendy Chew and Sheila Rolfe, of Hope and Homes for Children, Emma Bennett and Julie Harris, of Broad Street Methodist Church, Nick Kendrick and Louise Compton, of Juvenile Diabetes (JDRE), Mark Bennett and Dave Lucy, of Friends of St John the Baptist Primary School, Megan Rangeley, of 5th Spalding Rainbows, Kelley Cross and Annette Page, of Wygate Park Academy PTA and Simon Hare and Lisa Woodcock, of Spalding Cycling Club. The Spalding Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme group is also due to pick up its cheque.
The group’s Stephen Colby said: “Since the club’s first collection in 1986 we have collected well over a quarter of a million pounds through the generosity of the people of Spalding – and we are very grateful for that.
“We have been able to support good causes and people in need of some help or comfort – mainly locally, but often some national good causes and sometimes international well managed schemes.”
