New Year’s Day football: Debut goal for Seymour-Shove secures point for Spalding United at Histon

A second-half goal from new signing Ben Seymour-Shover earned Spalding United a 1-1 draw at Histon on Saturday in what was Brett Whaley’s first game as boss.

Spalding were favourites to end their four-game winless run against hosts Histon, who sat in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division relegation zone at the start of play.

But, after a goalless first half, it was the home side when went ahead thanks to an Oliver Brookes strike on 56 minutes.

However, Seymour-Shove levelled on 74 minutes to clinch a draw for the Tulips and give Whaley his first point as manager.

That leaves Spalding 13th in the table with their early season goal of reaching the play-offs looking a little out of reach at present.

Another new signing, Jack Lynch, also started for the Tulips in the draw.

Monday’s action comes in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North, with South Holland duo Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United squaring off at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field (3pm).
