UAH pupils get into the festive spirit

It’s been a busy festive period for pupils at University Academy Holbeach including a pupil’s own initiative to help others in the town

As well as the usual festive traditions including the annual carol concert and visits to Year Six pupils at local primary schools, an appeal was made to help the Holbeach Community Larder.

Year 10 pupil Hope Elston came up with the idea and throughout December pupils and staff were encouraged to bring in non-perishable and festive items.

They were delivered to the food bank by Hope and the four senior prefects Lizzie Robinson, Matthew Smith, Wayne Pereira and Joshua Smith

Head of performing arts Sam Graper said: As a school, we know that it is important to remind pupils to think of others at this time of year and we were very proud of the pupils for donating so much.”

Miss Graper also oversaw the annual Christmas Concert which this year had to be held online. It still involved choirs, Mash Up, Big Band, 6th Form Ensemble, Ukulele Orchestras and Percussion Club and it still available to view on the school’s website.

Miss Graper said: “We hope lots of people will log on, in order to listen to the performances.

“We are very proud of all of the pupils and it was a lovely way to celebrate the Christmas season.”

Another tradition is visiting the Year Six pupils at Holbeach Primary Academy and Holbeach Bank Academy for a Christmas lunch.

But with that not being possible this year, Miss Graper, Miss Paige and Mr Sadd spent an hour at each of the two schools singing Christmas songs, learning some body percussion, exploring Ukuleles and creating “Christmas Wish” baubles with pupils able to ask this year’s Year Seven pupils questions via a video link.

“It was a very enjoyable afternoon.” Miss Graper said.
