Knights slain by Nomads

High-flying Anstey Nomads proved no match for Pinchbeck United in the end on Saturday.

The Leicestershire side scored four second half goals to take the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North match away from the Knights.

Pinchbeck were competitive throughout the first half and frustrated the visitors in the opening exchanges.
Anstey thought they’d taken the lead in the 35th minute but Lee’s effort was ruled out for off-side after consultation between the officials.

They took the lead just two minutes later however, Annable rising highest in a crowded box to score.
Pinichbeck battled well in an attempt to get back in the game but were unable to get past former Leicester City goalkeeper Conrad Logan.

They then wilted in the second half as Anstey ran riot.

A 14-minute hat-trick from Corey Armeni settled things, his first on the hour mark from a fine finish.

A fine goal from distance by Connor Brown-Wingfield was the icing on the cake for Anstey.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game against a side who has only lost once so far this season,” manager Lewis Thorogood said. “We tried to set up and frustrate them and we did well for 35 to 40 minutes.

“It’s disappointing then to concede the first goal from a free kick when there’s 16 or 17 players in the box and no-one’s challenging the ball. You go in at half time 0-0 and you’re in with a real chance of getting something.

“Confidence dropped after that.”

Pinchbeck: Smith, Worthington, Spafford, Jackson, Peasgood, Moyes, Melson, Fixter, Millar, Robson. Subs used: Gomes, Kacirek, Stevens, Hollingsworth. Not used: Pipes-Goulsbra
