The injuries which killed Spalding man Warren Free are as yet “unascertained”.

An inquest into the 42-year-old’s death was opened at Boston Enterprise Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

During a ten-minute hearing, South Lincolnshire coroner Prof Robert Forrest outlined brief details about the circumstances surrounding Mr Free’s death at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham on Friday, August 29. He said the fatal injuries remained “unascertained”.

Prof Forrest mentioned the arrests which had been made, adding: “In practical terms, if a criminal trial ensues in relation to Warren’s death, I have to hold the inquest later and it’s unlikely that the inquest would be based on the evidence that came out of the trial.

“If there are no criminal proceedings then I will certainly be proceeding with an inquest in due course.”
