Billiards round-up: Cue ace Cooper shines but ends up on the losing team as Pyramid prevail

Mick Cooper put in the performance of the week in the Spalding and District Billiards League – but ended up on the losing side on Monday night.

The O190 handicapper sank breaks of 56, 29, 24, 20 and an unfinished 23 for his Holbeach A side against visitors Pyramid B.

Despite Cooper seeing off Martin O’Connor (R20), wins from Maurice Phillipson (R70) and Darrell Read (R30) gave the Bourne side a 4-3 success.

Read did manage an unfinished 26 break, while Phillipson chipped in with a cool 25.

In an all-Consti affair it was the B team who edged out the A side 4-3.

Mick Johnson (O170) starred with breaks of 28 and 26 for the victors.

It was 5-2 to visitors Donington as they saw off rivals Gosberton B.

Shane White’s (O30) 36 break was in vain for the hosts, but he did stave off a whitewash.

Donington are the league’s early pace-setters with four wins from six matches, putting them eight points clear.

Also 5-2 winners were Gosberton A, who got the better of hosts Pyramid A.

Malc Dennis (R110) settled that one in the final frame, but John Twell (R50) starred with a 26 break.

Results: Consti A 3 Consti B 4 (531-489); Gosberton B 2 Donington 5 (519-599); Pyramid A 2 Gosberton A 5 (531-579); Holbeach A 3 Pyramid B 4 (542-527).
