Blue light clash for Poppy Day

Two emergency services are to clash on the football pitch, all in the name of charity this Sunday, (November 14).

A team from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue will take on a Lincolnshire Police XI for the Inter Services Remembrance Day Trophy at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field in Spalding at 7.30pm.

The Remembrance Sunday event is being played to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

The blue light fixture used to be a regular occasion but hasn’t been played since 2017.

It’s back for 2021 however, with servicemen from across the county taking to the pitch.
Spalding Fire Crew’s Kelvyn Brooks, a former Spalding United and now Pinchbeck United player, is one of the organisers.

“They’re usually really good games,” he said.

“We’ve been trying to do it for a while and as it’s happening on Remembrance Sunday we thought the Royal British Legion was a great cause to raise money for.

“It should be a good night of football and entertainment for everyone.”

Entry to the Sir Halley Stewart ground is free, with any donations going to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
