Thousands of pounds were netted for the family of a football mad Holbeach three-year-old who are looking to create the best life possible.

Roman Fest was held for Roman Wilson at Donington Community Centre on Sunday as part of the fundraising efforts to build a swimming pool that would help ease the daily pains he experiences.

The day involved a football match between the South Lincolnshire Swifts and a Supporting Charities Football Team alongside a host of entertainment and stalls.

And it’s taken the current total to around £11,000 of the £35,000 Roman’s mum and dad Lucy and Josh hope to raise to build the pool and open it to others who may benefit.

Roman himself, who was left brain damaged after suffering two strokes before he was even born, took part in the football game, scoring a goal.

“It was even better than we expected,” mum Lucy said: “It was an amazing day, very emotional and absolutely fantastic.

“The rain didn’t help but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.

“Roman was brilliant. He took everything in his stride and wanted to get involved with everything. He especially enjoyed the football, was really getting stuck in and scored a goal.

“The charity team were fantastic with him and made everything about Roman.

“He was dancing to all the music too and the singers who were fantastic.

“He’s still buzzing and talking about it.

“We’re just so grateful for everyone’s support. It’s overwhelming.

“We want to send a massive thank you to everyone involved, especially organisers Jamie Wadlow, Nick Scurr, and Michael and Polly Clarey.

“Donington Community Centre were brilliant too and waived the fee we were going to pay.

“Thank you also to the vendors and everyone who helped out to make it such a special day.”
