Cricket round-up: Brilliant bowling brings Spalding Town an 11th win on trot

A great bowling display was the catalyst for another impressive Spalding Town victory in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division on Saturday.

Town bowled out Boston 2nd for only 71 at Seas End Hall, before knocking off their target in just 9.4 overs to secure all 20 points.

It’s now 11 wins on the spin for Chris Dring’s on-song side, who sit fourth in the standings just 14 points off top spot with a game in hand on two of the three sides ahead.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, only three Boston players managed double figures as Spalding excelled with the ball.

Will Naylor (4-24), Brandon Andrews (2-25) and Josh Lawrence (2-8) ran through the order superbly to secure maximum bowling points.

The Town reply was brief, with Ollie Dring (39 not out) doing most of the damage.

Joe Broomfield (19) also scored well before being bowled, allowing Jay White (3 not out) to join the free-scoring opener and see the game out.

Next up for Town is a free weekend, before a home date with title rivals Bourne 2nd the following Saturday.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Moulton Harrox came up 31 runs short in their run chase against Grantham 2nd at Broad Lane.

Batting first, an unbeaten 73 from Stewart Mudie and 46 from Sam Lythgoe guided Grantham to a strong 224-7 from their 45 overs.

Henry Lavery (3-52) and Lee Eyett (2-46) both bowled well for Harrox, while Chris Beale (1-30) and Jamie Juckes (1-28) also chipped in.

The run chase was always going to be tricky for the hosts, but Matthew Rose’s 74 kept Harrox very much in the hunt.

Nobody else was able to step up with a match-winning performance though, as Jared Hackney’s 4-44 helped bowl them out for 193 in the 43rd over.

The loss sees Moulton fall to the bottom of the table.

In Division One, Moulton Harrox’s second string also came up short in a run chase at Orton Park 2nd.
Impressive figures of 5-28 from Curtis Todd and 3-33 from Simon Juckes ensured that Harrox knocked their hosts over for 123 in 41.5 overs.

Victory looked to be in sight for the South Holland side, but they ended up 35 runs shy as Orton skittled them for 88.

Danny Jackson (21) and Harry Lovell (20) were the only Moulton men to make significant scores, as they stayed sixth in the table.

In Divison Two, solid knocks from Eddie Seymour (37), Will Gardner (30) and Nigel Gardner (25) helped Spalding Town 3rd thrash Billingborough 2nd by 95 runs.

Town posted 128-8 from their 45 overs, before Barnaby Dring (3-10) and Neo Timothy (3-6) ran riot to dismiss Boro’ for a meagre 33 in 13 overs.

The win sees Spalding stay eighth in the standings.
