LETTERS – Problem is no traders, no punters

Reference Spalding market, I made my living market trading, moving to West Pinchbeck in 1998.

Spalding Market at that time filled totally the main square and the Sheep Market.

I struggled to get a pitch, only occasionally I obtained a casual pitch.

I also attended Stamford Market, again difficult to get a pitch, only once as a casual.

Now 2021, Spalding recently had only five stalls on a Saturday.

I went to Stamford last week, the market still fills the main road area, and several side streets.

I spoke to some traders about obtaining a stall, virtually impossible, I was told.

I found substantial free parking adjacent, available all day, every day.

The market had stalls for virtually every type of product – food, clothing, shoes, antiques, various speciality stalls, and was vibrant, all stalls taking money.

Perhaps Spalding council can explain the disparity?

Problem now is no traders, no punters, no punters, no traders, vicious circle.
