Easing boredom during lockdown

Residents at Cedar Falls Care Home in Spalding have been sharing how they have kept themselves and others engaged during lockdown periods and while they’ve been unable to see their loved ones.

Janet Boor who has lived at Cedar Falls since 2013 likes doing word search puzzles to keep her mind busy. Janet is often found sitting contentedly on a comfortable chair with her puzzle book and says she finds finishing puzzles highly absorbing.
Christopher Parker has lived at Cedar Falls for over 12 years. He keeps himself occupied by colouring.
Doreen Pell has a different approach, she believes that smiling, talking to people, and finding things to do are a positive way to manage. Doreen has also lived at Cedar Falls for several years and most of the community at the home agree that smiling is beneficial for everyone.
Bet Harwood loves that her family are only a phone call away if she wants to talk to them. She looks forward to their calls and says this keeps her happy and content. Bet has lived at Cedar Falls for over six years and is central to many of the events and activities in the home.
Activities Coordinator Sharon Kendall said: “We find things to do and enjoy every day. There is always something going on in the home, we keep each other engaged.
“Our residents at Cedar Falls are talented, creative and have so much life experience to share; many of the activities turn to conversations on local history.
“I have learnt so much about Spalding’s past from residents. Its great these memories are shared, and things are not forgotten, Spalding has a great history.”
Deputy manager Susan Wilson said: “Although the past year has been difficult at times, the team and residents at Cedar Falls have been resourceful in finding meaningful activities to keep themselves engaged.”
