A former Spalding Grammar School pupil who grew up in Long Sutton has had his second novel published which is set in The Fens.
Mark Fitch has released The Treasury which he describes as ‘Lock Stock meets The Sixth Sense’.
It involves two groups, one of students and one of gangsters, looking for treasure left by King John.
Mark, who now works as a solicitor in Norwich, said: “As well as telling what I hope is a gripping story, with a good climax, the one idea I enjoyed developing was how the two gangs (the North London thugs and the posh students) interacted with both the area (and its bleak flatness) and its people.
“Both groups clearly look down on the locals.
“The question is who prevails?”
It’s Mark’s second book with his first, an erotic legal thriller called The Chant, available on Amazon under the pseudonym Carl Mason.
For The Treasury, the area around Long Sutton was very much an inspiration for the book.
“The old home town was important from the start,” Mark said. “I’ve known the King John story as long as I can remember.
“The Long Sutton sign bears his name and I also grew up with A10 tankbusters etc roaring overhead dropping bombs on the range at Holbeach marshes. So the idea came together from those two bits of childhood.”
