LETTERS – Despair over town centre

I despair. What’s happened to common sense when Coun James Avery states in the Voice 15/10 “that more outlets at Springfields will be beneficial to the town centre”. What town centre?

Who’s going to get back in their car from Springfields and come to a ghost town and pay exorbitant car parking fees as he suggests?

These 18 new outlets should never have been given planning permission.
Hills is the straw that’s broken the camel’s back.

There is now no point in going into town. Hills, Beales, Bon Marche, Claire’s, Homebase (duplication of B&M) Revills Jewellers, Clintons, The Gentleman’s Outfitters, Tui and Thompson to name but a few have all closed.

Then there’s the fragmentation of the market and the debacle over erecting the stalls.

The South Holland Centre states “It has no idea when it’s re-opening”, yet Boston cinema has been open for months!

The renewal of the “Welcome to Spalding” signs have never come to fruition.

Our town centre needed money spent on it years ago and now is beyond recovery.

These extra outlets and the demise of Hills is Spalding’s death knell.

This council should hold its head in shame for allowing this to happen.
