Fish again in limited supply as Simmonds seals Tydd Gote Angling Club victory

It was a return to the higher number pegs at Main Road for this week’s Tydd Gote AC Sunday club match in the expectation of finding a few more fish than of late – but once again, they refused to play ball.

Dave Simmonds was on peg 34 and found a good tench on his pole line with worm for 4lb 9.5oz to take the win, but also had the misfortune to lose a bigger fish on the feeder.

Martyn Thomas, on peg 35, took the runners-up spot with two big perch on the feeder for 2lb 4.5oz, but he left it late with both fish coming in the last hour.

Weights fell away after that, with Andrew Kilby third after hooking two roach for 2.5oz and Pete Emery and Steve Borrett joint fourth with only sticklebacks in their net.

Wednesday Open / Club match (Black Dyke) – 1st John Taylor 6lb 11oz; 2nd Jez Rockett 4lb 2oz; 3rd Don Green 15oz.

For any enquiries about the club contact Dick Paul on 07747 824301 or if you want further details about fishing the club matches it’s Pete Emery on 07947 864889.

WINNER: Roger Smith.
  • Roger Smith has been in fine form at Holbeach and District Angling Club recently – and he took the win again on Sunday.

His huge net of 19lb 12oz from peg 17 boasted two big bonus bream to ensure he was the winner at Sharp’s Bridge (South Holland Drain).

Despite winter setting in, the river was still in fine form with the other leading performers also faring very well.

Next door on peg 16, Chris Newton had a good net of nice roach, rudd and skimmers for a total of 11lb 2oz all caught on the pole line.

Third place went to Jason thrower with 10lb 7.05oz from peg 13.
