New play area for academy

Children at a Gosberton School have been able to socially distance more outside thanks to the creation of a new outdoor area.

Gosberton Academy’s outdoor area was constructed over the summer by Lincolnshire-based company Newby Leisure.

It includes a mud kitchen, a water feature, planting and growing areas as well as a clamber tree.

And among the first to use it were the school’s 20 strong new Reception Class.

Head of Academy Tom Baxter hopes it will benefit more than just pupils.

He said: “We have invested a considerable amount of money into the outdoor area.

“The previous area had been very useful in supporting children’s learning but the new area is absolutely fantastic.

“We have been in contact with our local nurseries and playgroups.

“We have a very good relationship with Rainbows Playgroup which is situated over the road and there is now a new nursery at the other end of the village, Little Stars Nursery.

“Learning, exploring and playing outdoor is crucial to children’s development and we want to do all we can to support as many children as we can.”

It’s a school year that’s began like no other due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“It has been great to have all of the children back,” Mr Baxter said. “They have settled back into the school routine very well and are happy to be back with their friends.

“The parents have been amazing too – following different timings and collection points and communicating worries and concerns with us.”
