Pre-season: 80-strong crowd see Holbeach United lose to Wisbech, Fenton sinks Deeping Rangers

The latest round of pre-season friendly fixtures on Saturday saw a number of derby clashes.

Perhaps the pick of the fixtures saw Holbeach United entertain higher-graded rivals Wisbech Town at Carter’s Park.

With close to 80 fans allowed into the ground for the first time since government guideiines for non-league football were relaxed, the Fenmen emerged as 2-0 winners.

Former Spalding United striker Avi Vieira doubled the lead for Brett Whaley’s side, with Holbeach unable to recover after the break.

The defeat was a first pre-season reverse for Phil Barnes’ side, who had previously enjoyed wins over Crowland Town Reserves (5-0) and Swaffham Town (3-1), plus a 1-1 draw against Moulton Harrox.

There was better news for Spalding United, who picked up a 1-0 win at UhlSport UCL Premier Division side Deeping Rangers.

New signing Jacob Fenton continued his eye-catching pre-season form with another goal for the Tulips.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox picked up a 1-0 win at Horncastle Town on Tuesday night.

Harrox are back in pre-season action at Peterborough Northern Star – who beat Pinchbeck United 6-0 last weekend – on Saturday (2pm).
