Cricket returned to South Holland this weekend as clubs held friendlies ahead of the August 1 start of the South Lincs and Border League.
Spalding Town’s 1st XI visited Market Deeping on Sunday and were unable to chase down the home side’s 209-8 from 40 overs.
Will Naylor claimed 4-33 from eight overs and Brandon Andrews 3-59 from 10 after Deeping won the toss.
But Deepings’ Joe Malton hit 111 for his side.
Chris and Ollie Dring (22) gave Spalding a good start to the reply with Chris going on to hit a fine 70.
But Town were unable to up the scoring rate much with captain Matt Gill’s 20 not out being the only other score in double figures.
They closed on 180-8, 29 runs behind.
The previous day Market Deeping also defeated the newly promoted Moulton Harrox in a warm up match.
Deeping batted first and their opener Kieran Judd led the way scoring a century before retiring as Deeping posted a total of 253-7 from their 40 overs.
Louis Greetham led the way for Moulton taking 4-49 from his 10 over spell.
He was backed by Steve French (2-49) and Adam Cornwell (1-46).
Moulton struggled to keep up with the run rate but enjoyed some good time in the middle as they posted 142-7.
Josh Newton came in at number three and top scored with 31 while there were also decent knocks from opener Chris Beale (21), Jake Morton (19) and Cornwall (16 not out).
Meanwhile an all-round bowling display helped Spalding 2nd XI to a victory over Baston.
Baston were bowled out for 117 in the 39th over with eight bowlers turning their arm over for Spalding, and all but one picking up a wicket.
Will Naylor (2-8), Mohammad Alam (2-11) and Jay White (2-18) all picked up a couple of wickets.
Ollie Dring led the way for Spalding carrying his bat with 55 not out as a five wicket win was claimed with six overs to spare.
The two sides were due to reconvene for a limited overs game this week.
