LETTERS – Willing to speak for the people

I was bemused to read Mr De Jong’s letter in the Voice (July 2).

It is precisely because the readership of this excellent paper are capable of forming their own opinions that robust and open debate so regularly features!

The point of comment columns is to promote ideas and stimulate debate.

It may disappoint a few, but most people welcome the fact that Sir John is in the local press so regularly.

Many MPs of all colours are rarely heard and never seen! Whereas hardly a week passes in which Sir John is not seen speaking in the House of Commons or fighting for people locally here.

It is almost comically disingenuous to equate the ingenuity of entrepreneurs and peaceful protestors – who seek to create and raise up – with the violent ‘Black Lives Matter’ extremists trying to tear down monuments and re-write history. They stand for harm and destruction.

You will be hard pressed to find another MP in this nation so willing to speak boldly for ordinary people in the manner in which Sir John does so often.

I congratulate him for doing so and The Voice for standing up for free speech at a time when many militants want to end it by “banning, destroying and damaging”.
