A cool way to raise money

A motor neurone disease sufferer who has raised thousands of pounds for charity is hoping to raise awareness of the condition while raising a bit more cash.

Nigel Brasier, of Donington, has reinvented the Ice Bucket Challenge – renaming it the Ice-Olation Bucket Challenge – in a bid to raise awareness of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The Ice Bucket Challenge – where the participant tips a bucket of iced water over their head – proved popular several years ago and Nigel decided to try and get it running again, this time in aid of a charity that’s very close to his heart.

He hopes to raise at least £1,000 and so far has pledges totalling £425 on his JustGiving page.

Nigel was diagnosed with a form of Motor Neuron Disease called Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) in 2013 and since then has organised many fundraising events in aid of MNDA.

He said: “During lockdown I was thinking of ways to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease and thought, why not reinvent the infamous Ice Bucket Challenge, which was a global success?”

Nigel is asking people to have a go, video their attempt and share it on social media platforms, while nominating at least five people, who will hopefully also take part.

He added: “I understand that not everyone is in a position to donate at this time, so as much as I’m looking for donations, the key is for everyone to post their videos to help it go global.

“It’s been shared in Australia, New Zealand, New York, San Francisco and Portugal so far.”
