A fish and chip thank you in memory of dad

Residents and staff at Holbeach Hospital were treated to a fish and chip supper as a thank you for the care they gave a former patient.

The Hungry Plaice donated over 50 freshly cooked meals for those there and even came back later on Wednesday, May 20 so the evening staff didn’t miss out.

Owner Georgina Lee-Price put on the gesture as part of National Kindness Week as a thank you for the palliative care the hospital gave her father William Lee who passed away aged 77.

Georgina said: “The care they gave my dad who was suffering with pancreatic cancer was absolutely fantastic.

“As I saw it was kindness week I though it was a great opportunity to say thank you to for the hospital for the way they looked after him.

“It’s a particularly tough time for the staff working during the COVID-19 outbreak and for a lot of residents having to self-isolate away from loved ones.

“We thought this was the perfect opportunity to spread a little bit of kindness in the same way Holbeach Hospital shows to its residents.

“They’re just a charity doing fantastic work and we all need to support each other in the community.”

The community hospital is run by the Holbeach and East Elloe Hospital Trust.

Hospital cook, Michelle Davis said: “The residents really enjoyed having authentic fish and chips in boxes, it was a wonderful experience for them.”

Manager at Holbeach Hospital, Maxine Winch, said “The staff and residents really enjoyed the fish and chips. Thank you so much to The Hungry Plaice, it definitely put a smile on our residents and staff’s faces.

“We continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness shown to Holbeach Hospital during this pandemic, we are truly grateful to local people and businesses for rallying around us.”
