Work to repair a sewer that’s closed one of the main routes into Holbeach has been paused.
No timescale has been placed on fixing Boston Road South after a problem with the sewer caused the road to collapse between Cecil Pywell Avenue and Holbeach Primary Academy.
Anglian Water say that due to the current COVID-19 crisis its prioritising other repair work.
The company did however start work on a £1,5m new water main in Holbeach last week.
Speaking with regards Boston Road South, a spokesman for Anglian Water, said: “Our teams are continuing to work with the local Highways to plan the repair to the damaged sewer which has caused the road collapse on Boston Road South in Holbeach.
“During these unprecedented times our teams are prioritising emergency and critical work, essential to keep taps running and toilets flushing, in order to keep our colleagues and customers safe. Some routine work has been paused and less urgent repairs are taking longer than normal to fix, while we plan how work can be undertaken safely and in line with the latest Government guidance.
“We are sorry any inconvenience this may cause, and would like to thank people for their patience, we hope to have the repair work on Boston Road underway as soon as possible.”
One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted The Voice as his home is on the diversion route.
“It’s incredible that the main route from Holneach to the A17 has been pushed to the back of the queue.
“It was due to be open soon but it looks a long way off.
“The cars are being diverted through a housing estate that’s largely for elderly people around Cecil Pywell Avenue and another housing estate around Chestnut Avenue.
“I’d have thought the works would be more important, especially given the new water main works starting last week,”
